Eine Gruppe von Unternehmen um IBM hat ein Standard vorgeschlagen, durch den Konfigurationsprobleme bei der Installation komplexer Anwendungen in Unternehmensnetzwerken beseitigt werden sollen, ohne dass ein Administrator Hand anlegen muss. Die Spezifikation Solution Installation for Autonomic Computing, die auf XML basiert, wurde beim World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) zur Standardisierung eingereicht. An der Entwicklung haben Novell, Installshield und Zero G mitgearbeitet.
