Der Microsoft Windows Installer 3.0 (MSI), wichtiger Bestandteil des Service Pack 2 für Windows XP, ist nun auch für ältere Windows-Versionen erhältlich. Zu den unterstützten Betriebssystemen gehören Windows 2000 mit Service Pack 3 oder 4, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP sowie Windows XP mit Service Pack 1. Erhältlich ist die Software im Download-Center von Microsoft.
Der MSI 3.0 soll unter anderem über das so genannte Patch Sequencing die korrekte logische Reihenfolge von Patches erkennen und beibehalten, auch wenn sie in anderer chronologischer Reihenfolge auf einen Rechner geladen wurden. Patches, die als entfernbar markiert sind, kann der MSI 3.0 laut Microsoft rückstandsfrei entfernen.

Die MSI 3.0 Redistibutable ist zudem die aktuellste Version welche installiert werden kann:
MSI 3.0 XP SP2: V 3.00.3790.2180
MSI 3.0 Redist: V 3.00.3790.2538 |
